1)  Do not go off the topic - One of the most important things for IELTS speaking is task achievement. Make sure you listen to the topic clearly and evidently. Do not mention anything which is not required or not to the point. Speaking out of the topic not only confuses you but also the examiner that will drastically affect your band scores.

2) Do not pause a lot - Everyone has a tendency to speak with pauses and come up with new ideas, but not in IELTS speaking examination. Any pause taken will deduct marks in the speaking section. And a lot of pauses also end up in disrupting the oral fluency.

3)  Do not fake an accent - People have a tendency to show off or want to impress the examiner and therefore, they try to fake an accent. You should always speak in your natural tone. Do not use informal or slang language. This will definitely lower your band score and make sure not to speak or pronounce words that you are uncomfortable pronouncing.

4)  Do not use crutch words - Taking too many pauses or repeating the sentences, show that you are falling short of words. And it will have a negative impact on the examiner. You should always complete the sentence and avoid words like “aah” or “mmm”.

5)  Do not maintain a mechanical body language or tone - Never try to speak in a mechanical tone and always have a voice modulation.  And most importantly keep a smiling face. Do not learn prepared answers; The IELTS examiner is trained to spot this and will change the question. Make sure to follow a rhythm while speaking that means don't be either to slow or too fast when you speak.
